(not movie), and somewhat of a companion release to 'sedatives': five sparsely arranged, deserted & forlorn songs and a closing instrumental (a tiny tribute to the sadly deceased founder of the penguin cafe orchestra). the songs themselves span a long distance in time - the title track being a more recent composition, for example, whereas 'is it really so sad' goes back to about 1995. still i have tried to make the soundstage a largely coherent one: i notice that the interpretive approach has been dominated by a sense of starkness and urgency. what? er, go on..."

A brief collection of intimate lo-fi recordings. The now classic "Sedatives" (here, a re-recording featuring electric guitar and more aggressive vocals) is followed by some equally fine guitar or piano driven songs - quite melodic and atmospheric. A perfect companion / epilogue to Ontic (BSBTA #56)... and an exciting prologue to cryptic scenery's next album, I guess!

Factory pressed CD and offset printed artwork, in a jewelcase.
The Greek duo Tilbury On Cloves' self-titled debut full length (after a number of compilation appearances and a split 7") is made up of a plethora of discreetly progressing dream-like cascades, gentle / experimental electro(nic) assaults and chiming nu-shoegazer passages, accented by demure, mopey vocals. Some will say "lo-fi post-goth", others will say "nu-gaze". We say "hurrah!"... while humbly categorizing it as an awesome example of Mediterranean "melancholia".

BSBTA #56: cryptic scenery "Ontic" - CD
Factory pressed CD and offset printed artwork, in a jewelcase.
Everything is. As is Ontic. It's more song-oriented, intimate, and stripped down (especially, compared to the previous cryptic scenery release of new material, Four Crescent Figures (BSBTA #21)), yet there are plenty of directions to keep you happy here as well: from the reverb-laden "The Old Bike", to the spoken word / atmospheric keyboard piece "Loose Conception of Greenland", to the instrumental Frippertronics-esque "Omnipresent" (reminiscent of what you can hear on cs's 3-inch The Singing Machine, released on the RetinaScan label). Of course, Ontic is a 100% solo effort - with Christian H. Sötemann having written, played, sung and recorded everything. It's about minimalism, presence and being. And Ontic should perhaps be present in your collection too...

BSBTA #21: cryptic scenery "Four Crescent Figures" - CD
Factory pressed CD and offset printed artwork, in a jewelcase.
Recorded on a four-track in the group's rehearsal room, yet displaying an incredibly full and fleshed out sound; their live sound has actually been reproduced well here. The album is their most heterogenous to date - with psyched-out guitar pieces, symphonically droning synths, sombre piano, melancholy indie rock and white noise. Filled with both calming and dramatic moments, where you either sit tranquilly, or can't help but play air guitar/keyboard/drums, "Four Crescent Figures" goes full circle.

DOOR126: Konrad Korabiewski "Stateless" - CD
A selection of recordings made between 1998 and 2008, forming a surprisingly flawless opus. The album's title signifies Korabiewski's own sense of ”disbelonging”, and, stylistically, "Stateless" does - rightfully so - combine moody Eastern European lo-fi-meets-hi-fi dance music with Scandinavian idiosyncrasies. Pixie-dust beats, zany synths and warped broadcasts from the Planet Lodz, resulting in avantgarde electronic pop music pieces for techno-happy melody fiends and interstellar noise/drone buffs alike. In addition to eight such tracks (plus a curious interlude), the handsomely packaged CD contains a remix by none other than German lap-pop superstar Schneider TM.

Out of nowhere comes this monstrous 29 track collection of possibly everything Claus 'Younolovebunny' Frøhlich recorded during his stay in Salzburg, Austria. A manically creative period for sure. And yes, this album is uneven, eclectic (from '90s slacker rock to ear-gasmic shoegaze to gentle acoustic folk to amusing electronic effects), and undeniably lo-fi (recording volumes sometimes vary dramatically from one track to another!), but it's also 29 singles that stand well on their own. Oh yeah, and: a tracklist was purposely omitted, and the cd-r is limited to 12(!) copies. "Albummet der ændrede verden" = "The Album That Changed the World".
