Lope / yellow6 / Absent Without Leave / Kimonophonic
"Lope / yellow6 / Absent Without Leave / Kimonophonic"

BSBTA is excited to be releasing this four-way split CD, featuring the music of Lope: warm, dream-like, compositions, accentuated by electronics, light rhythms and melodica; yellow6: the world renouned ethereal guitars and meditative keyboards of Jon Attwood; Absent Without Leave: ambient-harmonic-drones-with-beats, perfect for relaxing; Kimonophonic: things are set on fire!, without sacrificing the exquisitely catchy harmonies that make up this solo artist's brand of analog indietronica.

The Inhibitionists "Flypaper Airplanes"

This time around, your Inhibitionists are
Jessy Kendall, Karsten Høegh, Line Sabroe and Christian Kann. "F.A." finds them dabbling in free-as-fuck folk, stoned electro(nics), audio card noise symphonies, and more... usually all at once. Traditional song structures are pretty much eschewed here. An exciting listen.

Kowloon "Free Methodist"

Kowloon is (also) Christian Kann. "Free Methodist" is a 30 minute improvised piece for toy synth, mini organ, radio, empty glass and hardwood floor, recorded live to ghetto blaster. At times abrasive, at times childish, at times prog, at times nearly melodic. This release is limited to as many copies as BSBTA feels like making; each cover is 'foam rubber stamped'.

Shaw "Happy Road"

Shaw's third contains yet more pop hits, being a celebration of what the Fab Four revolutionized, but in the Shaw style we know and enjoy. Bits of classic UK blues rock, acoustic folk and drum machine-led punk round off the album nicely. The late G. McLennan and, of course, the later J. Lennon would be proud.

Younolovebunny "Parroteyes"

Recorded by Lenny Davies in Århus, this, Younolovebunny's first (and all too brief - so play it on repeat!) release for BSBTA, is (as far as I'm aware) the only the third ever BSBTA release to feature studio recordings exclusively! And yet, the lo-fi charm is still as apparent as the rock action. Indie rock with mucho charm. "Parroteyes" comes in homemade packaging (as is BSBTA's inclination of late) with an illustrated lyric sheet and mini-booklet!

cryptic scenery "Seven Bars of Silence"

From cryptic-scenery.de: "yet another cd-r e. p. (not movie), and somewhat of a companion release to 'sedatives': five sparsely arranged, deserted & forlorn songs and a closing instrumental (a tiny tribute to the sadly deceased founder of the penguin cafe orchestra). the songs themselves span a long distance in time - the title track being a more recent composition, for example, whereas 'is it really so sad' goes back to about 1995. still i have tried to make the soundstage a largely coherent one: i notice that the interpretive approach has been dominated by a sense of starkness and urgency. what? er, go on..."

The Inhibitionists "Living it Up in the Dark Ages"

When asked about Living it Up in the Dark Ages, the debut album by a certain 'international via-mail home recording collaboration project', Christian Kann - head inhibitionist - had this to say: "Failed Experiments in Pop! This turned out a lot weirder than I had hoped/intended - and I'm to blame! Sure, there's listenable/enjoyable stuff on here - from minimalist ambient textures to Wall of Sound noise-bursts, catchy harmonies and nine different (very different) vocalists. My finishing touches just seem a bit heavy-handed and dominating. Bah! Let's call it Brian Wilson-esque obsessiveness - just in time for Summer, dudes and dudettes! (Don't mind me... I'm a bit overwhelmed now, and relieved to see "Living it Up..." finally released, after almost a year of working on it! On to the next album!)"

(Which isn't to say "Living it Up..." isn't an alright album. You be da judge. Thank you to Steve, Penny, Janus, Karina, Jessy, Karsten, Peter, John+John, Preston and Niklas for your much valued musical contributions!)

David Neuer "Maple Tree"

DN's most straight and accessible album yet! And, while a few of the tracks hereupon were recorded with / on "unprofessional" equipment, Maple Tree is also Neuer's most consistently hi-fi (without really being hi-fi) release to date. Aside from a few delightfully oddball tracks (the silly ''Blow My Balloon'', the harsh ''That's Quite Some Scrabble You Put Out There'' and the Satie-esque, puzzlingly titled piano piece ''Wombers Game Sculpture''), Maple Tree is well endowed with, mainly, acoustic songs, that showcase David's knack for eccentric lyrics and melodic cosiness.

mr60 + Flatland "Easy Days E.P."

Compared to previous mr60 efforts, this release (a 'collaboration' with Marco Lorenzoni of mr60's like-minded solo project, Flatland!) is more melancholy and stripped down. But still, with just the right amount of pleasant folk tunes, off-kilter sounds and lo-fi warmth. Actually, there is a very nice horn section on "A Song to the Wind" too . This is ideal early morning music (if your idea of an 'early morning' is - like mine - 10 a.m.)!

Christian H. Sötemann "New Minimalist"

While not as minimal in its instrumentation / playing as "Being" (though that is debatable, considering its more varied field recording oriented tracks), this collection of seven short pieces feels both organic and robotic. CHS uses just an electric guitar and a drum machine, producing sparse compositions which flow together, as it were one long track. Akin to the "Being: Six Objects" (BSBTA #17) album, "New Minimalist" is released in a very minimal edition (here, 30 copies instead of 20).
